The NHS Health Check is an adult health check designed to spot the early signs of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, kidney disease and dementia, Taking just 30 minutes, the check provides the opportunity to quickly gain an understanding of your risk of developing one of these diseases in the future. Cholesterol, blood pressure, pulse, height and weight, and waist circumference are all measured, with family history and lifestyle also being discussed. Trained advisers will talk about your results, refer you on to the GP for further investigation when necessary, and provide personalised advice about any lifestyle changes you could make to reduce your risk of developing cardiovascular disease. If you are between the age of 40 and 74, you could be eligible for an NHS Health Check.
Think of the check as an excellent opportunity to have a mid-life health MOT. Even if you feel fine, conditions like high blood pressure often have no symptoms, so it’s a good chance to have a check for peace of mind.
Most of our health and wellbeing services will continue to run during lockdown - either online or over the phone.
