Support group for survivors who have experienced or who are currently experiencing domestic abuse. Choices along with partner agencies in Kent and Medway, have written, developed and are delivering Phoenix in place of the Freedom Programme. Phoenix is a Psycho-educational Programme formed of people with shared experiences, enabling discussions that promote the understanding that the individual is not alone and that their feelings are valid. Appreciating the dynamics and cultural context of abuse also assists in the overcoming of feelings of guilt, shame and loneliness as they become aware of the fact that their experience was not “their fault”. Groups give access to collective strength, the sharing of feelings, reactions, thoughts, self-care activities and coping skills. The group is led by a trained facilitator and will consist of a small group of survivors. The group runs for 10 weeks and we meet once a week for approx. 2 hours.
